Any parent whose little one has decided to take a flight of fancy while you’re perusing around a store will recognise that dread that sets in when they leave your sight, and it was a case of nightmare becoming reality yesterday for one British family.

Two teenage girls have reportedly been arrested over the alleged abduction of a three-year-old tot, from a Primark store in Newcastle.

According to reports, the toddler was shopping with her mother in the store on Northumberland Street, on Wednesday, when she disappeared at around 4:55pm.

The police were contacted, and an immediate and broad search was carried out in the local area, with CCTV footage examined in the process.

Thankfully, the child was located by police later that evening, miles away in the suburb of Gosforth. She was reunited with her mother shortly afterwards.

Two teenage girls – a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old – have since been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction. It is understood that the girls were not known to the child.

An investigating police officer said that whole ordeal had been ‘incredibly distressing’ for the child’s family and thanked everyone who helped out in the search.
