According to reports, the teacher in question arrived to both classes with the animals before killing them with a captive bolt stun gun.
Following this violent display, the teacher, who is employed by a secondary school in Horn, Lower Austria, is said to have dissected the creatures as part of his biology lesson plan.
Devastated students requested they buy the rabbits off the teacher only to be told he planned to eat the animals later that evening.
Distraught, a number of students reported the incidents to their parents who approached the school and demanded an explanation for the conduct.
Following parental intervention, the local school board investigated the matter which took place at Gymnasium Horn and were advised by the teacher at the centre of the case that no students were present when they animals were killed.
According to Austrian newspaper, Heute, the school inspector is quoted as saying that the biology teacher is known for his 'unorthodox teaching methods'.
The teacher is understood to have received a warning from school officials.
