Kathy Richards gave a child up for adoption when she was a young mother. Now 48 years later, they're reuniting for the first time.

Given up for adoption at birth Amanda Broadus found her birth mother through Facebook on New Year's Day of 2016.

Richards and her husband searched for Broadus for many years "but only hit dead-ends."

Richard's daughter, Heather, arranged for the pair to reunite and it was the "best gift my brother and I could have ever given to our mum."

Heather continued to say that they feel lucky that they were able to welcome Amanda into their family.

"We were both fortunate to be at a place in our lives to open our hearts to love, instead of the array of other emotions often felt by family members in similar situations.

"I wish everyone looking for their loved ones, luck in their journey. I also wish those that may be found (either expectedly or unexpectedly), luck in making the choices they have before them."

Commenting under the Love What Matters video, Richards expressed the hope that biological families be united in the positive way she was wih her daughter.

"[I wish that] that every birth mum out there that has not had the opportunity to find the child she gave up for adoption, for whatever reason, [will] have the incredible reunion I had been blessed with my first-born daughter."

"I am truly a blessed woman and if I had the power to help any birth mother find her child I would not hesitate."

Others have reacted emotionally to the tear-filled video, some even sharing their own stories of reuniting with birth families:

We're so glad it worked out so well for the family!
