What are some makeup bag essentials for mums on a budget?

Although the notion of a jam-packed beauty kit is extremely desirable, it is certainly not practical for a mum on a budget. However, that does not mean you have to do without. Here are some key makeup pieces that should belong in every mum’s makeup bag – that won’t break the bank!

Concealer
In order to hide the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and imperfections, a good concealer is a must have. MummyPages recommends L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer. This product is very similar to YSL’s Touche Eclat (also owned by L’Oreal), and definitely wins us over on price at only €12.99.

Foundation
A good foundation is hard to find, especially one that contains all the right ingredients for your skin type. Look out for products that contain at least SPF 15, and have a hydrating formula. L'Oreal Lumi Magique foundation promotes instant skin radiance, contains SPF 18 and promises to last for twelve hours – perfect for any mum on the go!

Blush
Gel and cream blushes are ideal for mature skin, because they’re more moisturising than a powder blush. They also give skin a dewy, natural look. Rather than just choosing a shade that you like, try to mimic the natural hue of your skin. We recommend Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blusher in soft copper for those with pale Irish skin.

Mascara
Great news! According to a number of sources, mascara is simply mascara, and there is little difference between luxury and discount purchases. So choose any brand you like – if you can’t find your favourite, we recommend Maybelline Colossal Mascara - Volum' Express.

Eye-shadow
When it comes to eye-shadow, the most important thing is to find a shade that compliments your eye colour and complexion. Once you have that down, invest in two or three shades that can be used in different intensities for both day and night, keeping your cost to a minimum. We love Revlon's colour palettes.

Tweezers
Essential for those stray hairs that we want rid of!

Makeup Brushes
If you invest in a good set of makeup brushes they should last a lifetime with the right care and attention. The main brushes that everyone should have in their kit are a foundation brush, concealer brush, powder brush, blusher brush and two eye shadow brushes, one for application and one for shading. The Body Shop offer a broad range of makeup brushes at reasonable prices.
