What are the most common eye problems in children?

The most common problems in children are refractive errors, which are errors in how light is focused by the eye which results in everything looking blurry.

These errors are commonly known as: Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism.

  • Myopia (short sighted), where a child can see items clearly when they are up close but the item becomes blurry in the distance
  • Hyperopia (long sighted), where a child can see items clearly in the distance but the items becomes blurry up close
