We’re used to pretty surprising studies saying we should eat this or that or do THIS unexpected thing to get the six-pack we’ve dreamed of etc. etc. But even we were a little taken aback by a study that says it’s actually a good idea to wee in the shower.

Normally the idea of someone peeing in the shower is met with squeals of disgust and “ughs” and “ews”, but according to one site it’s actually a BENEFICIAL thing to do.

Yep, according to MIC, doing your number ones mid-soap saves water and toilet paper, conserving our environment one pee at a time.

“Peeing in the shower is awesome,” writes MIC’s Jordyn Taylor. “There's no aiming! No wiping! No butt-cheek-toilet-seat contact! It’s so great, a survey once found that 61% of Americans admit to doing it. Another benefit to peeing in the shower? It saves water.”

According to the Environment Protection Agency, flushing the loo accounts for 27% of US water usage – that’s 1.6-7 gallons per flush, depending on the toilet. Just make sure you’re peeing while shampooing, or defuzzing, or else your shower pee time can waste nearly as much water as a flush!

And there’s another benefit to whizzing while washing apparently. Gwyneth Paltrow (who else?) wrote on her lifestyle site Goop that squatting while peeing improves sex by strengthening pelvic floor muscles.

“Try peeing in the shower squatting down,” the piece reads. “When you squat to pee as opposed to sitting up straight on the toilet, you automatically engage your pelvic floor and it naturally stretches and tones.

“Because your urethra is pointed straight down in this position all you have to do is relax for urine to flow out easily – as opposed to sitting up straight and having to strain to empty your bladder.”

So there you have it. Peeing in the shower is apparently the way to ‘go’.

What do you make of peeing in the shower? A gross no-no? Or a pretty easy way to go green?
