It looks like there could be a link between the female orgasm and raised fertility, according to a new study.

New research has shown that the woman’s chances of conception could be increased by up to 15pc if they reach orgasm.

The study done in University College Cork involved women self-inducing orgasms over a two month period and found their fertility was higher as a result.

The team are now hoping to expand the study by getting more women on board.

The current findings were from six volunteers between the ages of 26 and 52 and it found that “female orgasm does perform some sort of sperm-retention function".

A member of the research team, Dr King said that while they may not have had a huge number of women involved, the results show that an orgasm could increase a woman’s chances of conception by up to 15pc.

“I think there is a proof of concept there,” Dr King said of the study results.

“We would like to roll it out. We would like to get the funding to roll it out to a larger scale.”
