You wont believe what Disney character was inspired by one of the Royal Family

The Royal Family are by far one of the most famous families in the world. They’ve certainly influenced pop culture dramatically, especially in recent years.

The King’s Speech and The Young Victoria honoured the family by sharing their stories on the big screen.

Viewers have been glued to The Crown which follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to the present day.

Netflix is jam-packed with documentaries about Prince William, Diana and Queen Elizabeth. From the family’s biggest scandals to historical tales about how they’ve ruled the United Kingdom.

However, it’s not only serious period dramas and award-winning movies that have been inspired by the family.

Disney has been heavily inspired by one member of the family in particular and even named a character after him.

In 1959, Disney was in the middle of producing the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty. At the time of production, the Royals were by far the most popular and loved family on the planet.

Walt Disney decided to honour them by naming Aurora’s sweetheart after the Duke of Edinburgh. That’s right, Sleeping Beauty’s Prince Phillip is, in fact, inspired by the real-life prince himself.

The Disney character may not look like Philip as Walt wanted to alter his physical appearance. Disney’s Prince Phillip has brown eyes and brown hair, whereas Philip had fair hair and piercing blue eyes at the time the movie was made.

Maybe Disney will honour one of the newer members of the family in the future. Who knows, there could be a Disney Princess named Meghan or Kate in the coming years.
