When we were younger, we were quite content to head to the seaside for a family holiday, but it seems this just doesn’t cut it for the kids of today.

New research has revealed that space-themed hotels and rollercoasters are top of the list when it comes to what children really want from a holiday.

Jet2holidays asked 1,000 children aged between seven and 13 to tell them what the ideal holiday would constitute for them – from location to accommodation and activities – and the results are interesting, to say the least.

While Spain proved to be the most popular destination, little ones got a tad pickier when it came to their accommodation requirements.

Indeed, a fifth (20 percent) of kids surveyed said their ideal hotel would have a ‘space’ theme, with others opting for ‘under-the-sea’ and even 'zombies'!

As for the essential requirements, almost half (49 percent) opted for theme park rides like rollercoasters, while sweet treats and zoo animals also proved popular.

While we parents may not be able to deliver on every item on our children's wish-list, there are some requests that we could certainly manage.

Almost half of those children surveyed (45 percent) admitted to wishing that their parents would spend more time and play games with them during their family holiday.

Now that is something we can all definitely deliver on!
