Sure, being pregnant has its challenges – like swollen ankles, hormonal mood swings and that feeling of exhaustion.

But it’s also an incredibly special time, full of wonderful experiences and emotions.

Like these:

1. We have a special secret

Being pregnant is like having the best secret in the world, particularly during those first few months. We could be doing everyday things like the weekly shop, or sitting in the office at work, and every now and then we’ll suddenly hug our special secret close and allow ourselves a private smile. And the best part of this secret? The excitement that soon we’ll get to share it.

2. Relaxation is strongly encouraged

“Why of course I would like a back massage. How nice of you to offer!” There isn’t any other time in our lives we’re encouraged to relax as much, so we may as well make the most of it, right? Now, to be fair, our bodies are pulling off an amazing feat – creating new life and all that – so we deserve to put our tired feet up as much as possible. Now if you need us, we’ll be over here reading a magazine and drinking chamomile tea. Aaah!

3. We get to wear cosy clothes

Leggings, tunics, soft knits – maternity dressing is all about comfort for the mum-to-be. If it’s stretchy and cosy, we are SO in. In fact, we’re so enamoured with our comfy duds, we don’t know how we’ll go back to wearing ‘normal’ clothes when baby is born.

4. We learn amazing new things everyday

From the way babies can recognise mum’s voice at birth, to the fact newborns can’t actually shed tears until they’re a month or so old, every single day we learn something amazing.

5. The newfound appreciation for our body

It’s true that many of us have a love / hate relationship with our bodies, but being pregnant puts it ALL into perspective. We begin to see our bodies in a different light – instead of worrying about stretchmarks or the size of our thighs, we start to view our bodies as strong, powerful and the giver of life.

6. That moment the baby kicks

That feeling when the baby kicks for the first time is truly incredible – and it makes the fact there’s a real baby growing in there seem much more real. And the novelty never really wears off. Each time we feel those kicks, we get more and more excited about meeting our brand new baba.

7. That constant state of excitement

It really is a wonderfully exciting time. Each day we wake up we feel like we’re getting closer and closer to our due date and talking, thinking and daydreaming about our baby becomes a huge part of our day. Is it a boy or a girl? Will they look like me? What will their laugh sound like?

SHARE if you agree that pregnancy is a wonderfully special time!
