Modern medicine is incredible, and there have been some truly amazing stories of babies beating the odds. This latest report, however, proves that just about anything is possible with pioneering techniques  - and, of course, hope.

A baby in the US is ‘doing very well’ after undergoing invasive heart surgery inside the womb, and pulling through a follow-up procedure after his birth.

Little Grayson Davila, now three months old, is somewhat of a medical marvel after his dramatic entrance into the world.

Diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome at just 27 weeks into mum Samantha’s pregnancy, ‘the odds were stacked against’ little Grayson. Facing a 50% mortality rate, Samantha and husband Marco decided that they would do anything they could to give their son the best possible chance in life.

In order to do so, doctors at Los Angeles’ Children’s Hospital told the Davilas that they would need to perform heart surgery on Grayson after his birth – but they would need to perform a preliminary procedure before that, inside the womb.

The surgeons entered the womb through Samantha’s abdomen and managed to place a tiny stent in Grayson’s heart. Thankfully, the surgery went successfully and it set up the next step – post-birth heart surgery.

According to the latest progress report, released this week, Grayson is thriving and in the best possible position as he faces into two more procedures.

What a little fighter. We’re wishing Grayson all the best with the rest of his journey.
