Pregnancy can be a confusing time for a teenager, which is why they need our support and love as they come to terms with what’s happening to their bodies and in their lives. It’s a shame that more people didn’t think about this when Jamie Lynn Spears announced her pregnancy back in 2007.

Jamie, who is the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears, has this week opened up about the ‘nasty’ treatment she received after falling pregnant at the age of 16.

Jamie, who welcomed daughter Maddie with her ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge, gave an emotional insight into the traumatic time during a TLC reality special, Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out.

Recounting the criticism and shaming she received at the time, 25-year-old Jamie said, tearfully: “The child star who got pregnant. A lot of horrible, nasty things were said. I look back now and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”

At the time, Jamie was the budding young star of Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101, and the backlash against her baby news – in both the media and the showbiz industry – was hard to take.

“I’m not just a child star. And I’m not just someone’s sister. And I’m not just a teen mom,” Jamie defiantly told the camera, hinting at the emotional toll the gossip stories took on her.

Jamie and Casey got engaged after their pregnancy bombshell, but split two years later. She went on to wed Jamie Watson in 2014.
