We're loving this idea!

We know that music can have a dramatic impact on our mood. For example the likes of “Rhythm Is A Dancer” rarely fails to get us shaking our funky stuff, while “My Heart Will Go On” generally elicits a sobbing, “But there WAS room for Jack on the door Rose!”

So it stands to reason that when we’re in labour, certain music can affect our mood too.

And the experts agree. According to Jacques Moritz an obstetrician at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, a special “push playlist” can actually help make labour calmer and more enjoyable.

With that in mind, he teamed up with Spotify to create the ultimate birthing playlist, full of aural delights to calm and soothe the mama-to-be.

“Labour is a really tough thing, and it goes on for a long time, so we try to find things that are comfortable and soothing,” said Dr Moritz. “Music can be very soothing. It's like having a familiar friend singing to you.”

Featuring chilled tunes like “Sunrise” by Norah Jones, the celestial “Starlight” by Muse and the very appropriately titled “Don’t Panic” by Coldplay, we think the playlist is pretty spot on.
