Mum-of-two Lisa Roberts launched a new campaign, Give Me Space, after she became frustrated with the state of parent parking spaces.

The business owner - along with the petition - took it upon herself to interview 2,000 parents and anyone who looks after children about their feelings towards car parks across the UK.

Following her research, Lisa found 93 percent struggle to get their children out of the car safely, due to lack of space to remove car seats and pushchairs. The majority of those interviewed also said that they struggle to find a free parents and child space.

Shockingly, “research indicates that in the UK, 90 percent of pregnant women have reported struggling to get their bump in and out of a vehicle due to lack of space in a normal parking bay.”

“Over half of these expectant mothers claim to have been forced to put excessive pressure on their foetus in a bid to get back into their vehicle.”

Of those who took part in the research, four in five want the Government to introduce new parent and child parking recommendations for all car park owners, just as it does with disabled spots.

The campaign has received a lot of support from mums, which one sharing her experience of having to climb over the passenger seat at 39 weeks pregnant to get into her car.

"As a heavily pregnant lady I had absolutely no chance of getting in. I had two options, wait for the driver to come back which could be hours or climb over the passenger seat - which I did," explained mum Lucy.

"I was physically exhausted it was really really hard work. I got home and went into labour a week early... which could have been because I put a lot of pressure on my bump."
