There is some good news this evening for families who are expecting, as it has been confirmed that Neighbourhood Midwives Ireland are once again covered to do homebirths for those mums-to-be who have previously undergone a Caesarean section.

The news was first announced across social media, with the establishment’s official Facebook page posting a photo which read: “We are extremely proud to announce that from 1st April 2015, we are able to support all women in Ireland and Northern Ireland, including woman who are VBAC.”

In a follow-up message, they paid tribute to their team of midwives for helping in bringing about this decision.

“There are no words for our excitement. Finally, all families in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have a choice of independent maternity care again,” the statement read.

Responding to comments from happy mums and mums-to-be, admin confirmed that there would be no automatic restrictions and that all mums would be individually assessed.

Needless to say, the news has been welcomed nationwide, with mums expressing their ‘relief’ over the decision.

Neighbourhood Midwives Ireland provides a full homebirth service in Northern Ireland as well as the Republic.
