While it is pretty common to experience forgetfulness during pregnancy, what exactly is this thing we call baby brain? Baby brain is usually caused by the fact that your brain is prioritising baby stuff over lesser important things. It can also be due to your hormone changes and being tired all the time.
Here’s how you can beat it, without letting it get you down.
Write things down
Have an appointment or meeting the girls for dinner? Write it down. Accept the fact that, for now at least, your memory is not at its best. Grab a diary and write everything you need to remember in it - doctor appointments, antenatal classes, paying a bill; try not to forget where you put the diary though.
Don’t remember so many things
If possible, delegate jobs and things that need to be done to other members of the family. Sure, you have enough to be doing growing a baby, never mind remembering when to pick up milk or to turn the washing machine on after you have loaded it.
Have a laugh
Found the remote control in the fridge? Or your car keys in the bread bin? Don’t get too stressed about it. The whole ‘baby brain’ stage should disappear after the birth, although for some mothers it can last a lot longer. Worrying about it will only make things worse, so try and not let it get to you.
Put your phone to good use
Worried about forgetting to check your diary for important things to remember? Well, put your phone to good use. Most smartphones have an electronic organiser built in and reminders can pop up on your phone, you’ll never forget anything again.
Get friends and family to help out
Try to get your friends or family to help with your baby brain. Ask them to remind you about important dates and to go easy on you, if you miss a lunch date with the girls.
Remember, this phase will pass eventually, so don't let it stress you out.
