As your body changes and you experience hormonal surges your emotions can quickly change. However, the hormones is not the only thing to blame for your mood swings, you are going through a huge thing in your life so you are bound to feel overwhelmed and more sensitive.
If you are experiencing severe mood swings, here are so six tips to help you:
Don’t hide your feelings
Don’t hide your feelings for the sake of others. If you are feeling sad, cry, if you are feeling angry, scream. Bottling it up won’t help you and it will end up just building up inside you before exploding out.
Talk to others
Talk to other mums to see how they coped with their emotional surges. Another person’s opinion will help to give you a sense of perspective and it will ensure you are not the only one feeling like this. Sometimes, knowing that you are not alone is the best way to deal with it.
Don’t worry about it
Don’t constantly worry that you are going to get angry, weepy or giddy at inappropriate times. It certainly won’t help you but it may actually make you feel worse. Never isolate yourself for fear of saying or doing something wrong. You are carrying another life so enjoy it as much as you can.
Get sleep
Make sure you are getting enough sleep and if possible try to grab a nap during the day. A lack of sleep can make everybody cranky so don’t skip on it.
Take it easy
Don’t overload yourself with chores or things to do. Try to ease up on commitments and take time out for yourself. Don’t overdo trying to get ready for baby as the pressure won’t help your mood. The less stress the better for you and baby.
When to get help
If your mood swings are severe or if you find them difficult to cope with, make an appointment to see your midwife or GP. You may be experiencing mild depression and it is better to sort it out as soon as possible.
