Try as you might, labour is just not something you can ever truly prepare for.
So we laughed a LOT at this video by Buzzfeed that pretty much nails the things that happen when you’re in labour. And despite it being tongue-in-cheek and obviously intentionally funny, it more than hits a nerve because it’s actually very, very true!
In the first scene a young good-looking doctor steps and says “I’m here to do your pelvic”.
“Nope,” says the mum-to-be resolutely, wagging her finger. “Female doctor, ugly doctor, any other doctor.”
Oh how we laughed.
While another mum looks at her partner like she wants to give him a clout. The reason? He’s gobbling down a sandwich with gusto while she snarls, “I haven’t eaten anything in 15 hours”.
And some mums-to-be are feeling like they’ve bitten off more than they can chew with this whole ‘baby thing’.
“I’m not ready for this. I’m not ready to have a baby, I’ll come back when I’m feeling ready.” Too late love!
And of course the dreaded ‘poop’ subject came up.
“Push like you’re pooping,” says the midwife.
“ARGH, I don’t WANNA poop!” came the frantic reply.
We definitely think this is a great video for prospective dads to watch. That way they’ll know not to munch in front of you, and certainly not to take photos when you’re lying half-naked, squirming in pain on a hospital bed!
