Kim Kardashian is arguably one of the most powerful influencers alive. The reality TV star has promoted hair vitamins, beauty products, waist trainers and even her own line of “Kimojis” to her eager audience of 102 million followers on Instagram.

However, Kim got into hot water when she promoted morning sickness drug Diclegis in 2015 without any warnings about the side-effects.

Her casual post read: “OMG. Have you heard about this? As you guys know, my morning sickness has been pretty bad. I tried changing things about my lifestyle, like my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor.

“He prescribed me Diclegis, I felt a lot better and most importantly, it’s been studied and there was no increased risk to the baby. I’m so excited and happy with my results that I’m partnering with Duchesnay USA to raise awareness about treating morning sickness”.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clamped down on Kim’s original ad, calling it “false and misleading” and she was forced to withdraw it and repost a new ad, along with an extensive warning.

Kim, who is rumoured to be planning on having a third child via surrogate, has posted a new ad promoting Diclegis again but this time the savvy star has included a lot more information.

In a somewhat contradictory photo, Kim, who is not currently pregnant, posed in a crop top and fitted satin skirt beside an advertisement for Diclegis.

Kim’s sponsored post read: “Four million babies are born each year in the US. That means a lot of my US followers are mommies to be who could have morning sickness like I did!

“I want to share what helped me: Diclegis® (doxylamine succinate/pyridoxine HCl), the only FDA-approved medication for morning sickness when diet and lifestyle changes fail. My doctor assured me that it’s safe and effective for mom and baby.

"#DontSufferinSilence you’re not alone! If you have morning sickness, ask your healthcare provider if #Diclegis is right for you. The most common side effect of Diclegis is drowsiness.

The ad went on to advise mums-to-be not to breastfeed, drive, drink alcohol or mix other medication with Diclegis. It also advised those considering taking Diclegis to seek their doctor’s advice first.

Despite the controversy surrounding Kim’s original ad, it proved to be a money-maker for Diclegis. Sales of the drug spiked by a whopping 500 percent after Kim’s sponsored ad.
