Kourtney Kardashian shares her top tips for surviving the first trimester

Pregnancy is such an exciting and unique experience for every woman, but it can also be quite an overwhelming time for many. Whether it’s your first or your fifth, each pregnancy is different and you often just have to take it day-by-day and go with the flow of it all.

One person who knows a thing or two about this is Kourtney Kardashian. The reality star, who is obsessed with health and wellness, is currently expecting her fourth child.

After announcing her pregnancy back in June, Kourt is past her first trimester and has now shared some of her top tips that helped her survive the difficult first few months.

Opening up on her website Poosh, the 44-year-old revealed, “I think my health and wellness journey is much further along in life than it was nine years ago [when I had Reign]. And having access to people like Leona [Wolf] has been a great resource to me, especially her tips for nausea and which supplements to take”.

Check out the tips below and see if they help you with any first trimester struggles you may be experiencing.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

Kourtney found lemons super helpful for when she was having nausea.

She explained, “Citrus really helped when I was feeling nauseous. I would have ice water with lemon, that saved me. I would keep it in a big HydroFlask and just have it all day long. I also had a metallic taste in my mouth, which is a common thing in the first trimester, and the lemon water also helped with that.”

Keep snacking

Another thing that helped Kourtney with nausea was making sure she always had food in her stomach.

“In my first trimester, I was always having to keep something in my tummy to help with nausea. So I would always take snacks with me”.

Some of the Kardashian’s favourite snacks included bagels with cream cheese, crackers, baked potatoes with Irish butter and pretzels.

Keep eating out to a minimum

Kourtney found it easier to make better food choices when she decided to eat at home rather than head out for food.

“I also find that I’m able to take better care of myself when I’m eating at home versus eating out. The Whole 9 Months: A Week-By-Week Pregnancy Nutrition Guide with Recipes for a Healthy Start is a book I found really helpful, especially the tips around making healthier choices when you can”.

Keep your legs elevated

Making sure to keep your legs elevated is important during pregnancy in order to help relieve the pain of heavy, tired and swollen legs.

Kourtney revealed, “I keep my legs up for 20 minutes in the evening/night. I use the wedge under my back and then put my legs up onto the headboard and set a timer”.

Keep moving

It’s important to remain active during pregnancy, while listening to the guidelines of your doctor. Kourt says you should always listen to your body and rest when you need to but keep moving as well.

“My doctor would only allow me to walk, so I would walk 30 minutes twice a day”.

Compression socks

The reality star ensures she wears compression socks during long drives or flights. This helps to reduce swelling and prevent blood clots which are sometimes more likely to occur during pregnancy.

Tuck into your cravings

Kourtney explained that cravings are normal and it’s okay to follow them, but make healthy choices where possible.

“I’ve always been obsessed with carbs in the first trimester. My doctors say, ‘Your baby is like a carb monster at that time, and that’s just what they are craving’. So you can lean into your cravings, but try to make healthier choices with them”.
