You asked

My child continually sneezes - is this allergy related?

A child who sneezes a lot probably has seasonal allergies, which is also called hay fever or allergic rhinitis. Accompanying symptoms of seasonal allergies are watery itchy eyes, a runny nose that itches, and nasal congestion.  Additionally, some children with seasonal allergies will have coughing spells and, if they already have asthma, there will be wheezing.

If your child is sneezing a lot and has some of the other allergy type symptoms, but does not have a fever, you can almost be certain it is allergies. A child with a cold will usually have a fever as well.

If the sneezing episodes occur in during summer or early autumn, it’s possible that your child is allergic to pollen. Another cause for allergies during this time are mould spores which are often found in soil, vegetation, and rotting wood.

Seasonal allergies are very common and easily treated. If you suspect your child has seasonal allergies, talk to your doctor about his symptoms.
