During pregnancy, especially in the early weeks, you may find that your breasts are quite sore and swollen. A common symptom when you’re expecting, it can be uncomfortable and, at times, very painful.

Here’s what you need to know about (and how to deal with) swollen and sore breasts throughout your pregnancy.

What are they sore?

Your breasts are getting bigger thanks to milk production, hormone changes and increased blood circulation, and while some women may have discomfort for the entire nne months, others find it eases off after a few weeks or months.

What can you do to ease the discomfort?

The following four options will help ease any pain:

1. Invest in a good bra

Your breasts will need extra support now and any bras that you have may not be sufficient. A maternity bra will provide comfort as well as security and you can use it after you have given birth.

2. Pop on a cold compress in the evenings

At the end of the day, pop a cold compress or a damp facecloth on your breasts. This can help cool them down and ease any pain. If you are in discomfort during the day, you can pop some cabbage leaves in your bra for extra comfort.

3. Have a warm bath

A bath also works like the cold compress in easing pain, but it also creates a weightlessness that can help with discomfort. pop a few lavender candles around the edge and have a truly relaxing experience. However, do remember no to have the water too hot as it can be dangerous to your baby.

4. Make use of breast pads

A breast pad can help prevent your nipples from rubbing against your bra material. They will also come in handy after the birth to cope with leaking boobs.
