Chocolate chip scones
These chocolate chip scones are the perfect occasional treat to pop in lunchboxes.

225g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting

½ tsp salt

55g cold butter, chopped

30g caster sugar

150ml milk

50g chocolate chips

1 free-range egg, beaten

Preheat the oven to 200°C/425°F/Gas 7. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Add the flour, salt, butter and sugar into a food processor and blitz until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs. If you don't have a food blender you can using a wooden spoon and just mix really well.

Pour in the milk, add the chocolate and mix until the mixture is fully combined and a dough is formed.

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface, knead until about 1 inch in thickness.

Stamp out rounds using a cutter and place on the baking tray.

Glaze the scones with a little beaten egg and place in the oven to bake for 12-15 minutes until the scones are well risen and golden brown in colour.

Set aside to cool.
