Easy classic bread pudding

Quick comfort food with minimal effort.
568ml fresh custard
150ml whole milk
140g white bread
50g dried cherries
Butter, for greasing
5-7 tbsp caster sugar
Preheat the oven to 140°C / 275°F / Gas mark 1.
Grease an oven proof dish lightly with butter and set aside.
In a bowl, stir the custard together with the milk.
Trim the crusts from the bread, cut into triangles, then place in a large bowl with the dried cherries.
Pour over the custard mixture, then mix everything together so bread are coated.
Cook for 30-35 minutes until there is just a slight wobble in the centre of the custard.
Sprinkle over the sugar to cover the surface, then place under a hot grill for 1-2 minutes until the sugar starts to melt and caramelise.
