We all try to have rules and lay down the law when it comes to our kids, but it’s all too easy for our little ones to get around us sometimes.
It seems that giving into the ‘pester power’ of your child could be costing you an arm and a leg however, if new research is anything to go by.
According to a survey carried out by Quidco, British modern parents feel pressured by their children to spend money on spontaneous purchases.
The research findings showed that 38% of those surveyed succumb to their child’s pestering “most of the time” – costing them an estimated £4,576 a year!
When the tables were turned on the kids, a whopping 63% admitted that they expected to be bought their requested item every single time they asked. That’s a lot of expectation!
With items such as snacks, magazines and toys making up the list of requests, parents revealed that it was factors such as tantrum-throwing (43%) or the pressure to keep up with peers (8%) that influenced their decision to ‘give in’.
Are you guilty of giving into your child’s ‘pester power’?
