There are few things that we love more here at MummyPages than a gender reveal. From smoke bombs to cake cuttings, skydives to drone displays; there’s something so lovely about watching that pink or blue (or both!) bring smiles and whoops of delight to the parents-to-be.

Dad-to-be Kyle Tait and his partner had grand visions of creating their own sweet scene, recently – but it didn’t quite go according to plan!

The couple chose a popular mode of gender reveal, opting for a baseball-themed surprise. Kyle lined up with a baseball bat in their driveway, waiting to be tossed a baseball filled with coloured chalk, pink or blue.

In a video shared to Kyle’s Twitter account, the parents-to-be are seen gearing up for the big throw. The idea was very simple: Kyle’s partner would toss the ball to him, he would swing and hit it into the air, and it would explode with a cloud of pink or blue ‘smoke’, indicating a girl or a boy.

We brace ourselves for the chalk explosion as the mum-to-be makes the throw – but are left disappointed when Kyle swings a miss, and the ball lands on the ground, promptly disintegrating into a pile of pink chalk!

While Kyle is deflated as he surveys the pile of chalk at his feet, his other half cannot contain her laughter!

“Walks don’t count at gender reveal parties,” wrote an unamused Kyle, adding ‘swing at everything’.

The video has caused quite the stir across social media, and a number of people have taken to Twitter to share their opinions on the incident!

“I’ve met Kyle Tait. He’s a really good broadcaster. Poor toss by his wife, but you gotta swing the bat!” wrote Robert Ford.

Kyle has also been able to poke fun at his hard luck, in a series of hilarious tweets!

“I never thought my patience at the plate would go viral. I mean, I’m a broadcaster for a reason,” he joked.

“I think everybody on planet Earth knows what we’re having. And every time I watch the video, it’s still not blue!”

While the big reveal may not have worked out exactly as they had planned, we don’t think the parents-to-be – or their daughter, for that matter – will ever forget it!
