Why do I need to know about sunscreen in order to keep my children safe?

It’s a known fact that skin cancer is on the rise. As our planet heats up, the sun has become a dangerous environmental factor, and one that you need to watch out for. That’s even more true of toddlers and young children, who’s delicate skin is more likely to burn and blister under the sun’s rays.

To make sure that your children are protected, here are a few sunscreen tips you can use.
Choose a high protection factor for your family. A SPF of 35 to 50 is the best choice, as it offers the longest protection.

Make sure that you apply sunscreen immediately before you venture into the sun – that gives you the longest protection window.

While you are in the sun, make sure that sunscreen is reapplied at least every two hours, and whenever your child gets wet.

If you follow those rules about sunscreen, and make sure that your child wears a hat, to prevent the delicate skin on his or her head from being burned, then you should be okay. Avoid the sun during the hottest times (around midday) and if your child finds applying lotion a problem, look for spray on sunscreens.

There are plenty of child and even baby safe sunscreens on the market, and it’s best to use them, as they are less likely to cause irritation to your child’s skin
