As parents, all we really want for our kids is to see them grow up and fulfil their dreams, and if that dream is to follow in our footsteps then we would be delighted.

But for one son HE was the one who felt pride, as he took to Reddit to share his achievement at finally fulfilling a dream of his.

Comparing a photo of him as a child sitting on his father’s lap with a photo of him now standing by his officer dad dressed in a police uniform, user BWest clearly couldn’t be prouder of both himself and his father.

I waited a couple decades to post this. Walking in my father's footsteps from pics

Captioning the photo "I waited a couple decades to post this. Walking in my father's footsteps", the picture went down a treat with everyone else.

“Thank you for your service. I hope you know you're appreciated,” wrote one, while another said: “Your father hasn't changed a bit.”

"That's one proud looking dad! Brilliant!!"

One person simply said “respect”.

Aw, we love this!
