Pregnancy can be a stressful time in any woman’s life. Regular life doesn’t come to a standstill; we still have the same responsibilities and obligations we’ve always had, but now we’re dealing with many other unfamiliar issues as well.

It’s hardly surprising that many mums-to-be feel they need to take time out to pause and reflect every once in a while. Have you been giving yourself and your baby this much-deserved time-out?  If not, now is the time to start!

Why not try one (or all!) of the following to ensure you and your baby are as calm as can be on the rest of your journey together.

Belly Breathing
Take a few minutes and place your hands over your bump. Take 5 to 10 deep breaths and imagine communicating with your child.

Visualisation
Visualising a place or scene that has a calming effect on you can work wonders for any mums-to-be. Place your hands on your bump, bring your baby along with you to this place and stay for a few minutes together.

Sunshine
Take a few minutes to let the heat of the sun warm your face and body. Enjoy the feeling and imagine your baby being comforted by its warmth as well.

Mantras
Repeat a phrase that brings you joy. No matter how silly or ridiculous, if the word makes you smile, then relax, rest your hands on your bump and repeat the word until you feel your anxiety has lifted and you can imagine your baby smiling at the word as well.

Love structure
Remind yourself of the people in your life that bring you joy and peace. Remind yourself of the reasons they bring you happiness. Visualise your child benefitting from the same support system when they’re born.
