So easy and tastes great.

180g light muscavado sugar

180g sultanas

130g currants

130g raisins

130g candied peel

20g chopped nuts

1 level tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp mixed spice

Pinch of nutmeg

230g bramley apples (grated)

130g melted butter

3 tbsp whiskey, brandy or rum

Put all of the dry fruit and spices in a large bowl and mix well.

Next add the apple, alcohol and melted butter.

Mix well to combine all ingredients.

Cover with clingfilm or a plate and allow to stand overnight.

Stir well again in the morning and then transfer to sterilized jars if not being used immediately. To sterilise the jars either use them straight from the dishwasher when still piping hot.  Alternatively, preheat the oven to 180⁰C/350⁰F/gas mark 4. Stand the jars on a baking tray and heat in the oven for 10 minutes.

Place wax discs on top of the mincemeat and seal the lids with jam pot covers.

Store in a cool dark place.

  • You can also add 130g of chopped cherries for added festive colour.
  • For our gift pots, we replaced the butter with shredded suet.  To do this, just mix in 130g shredded suet with the other dry ingredients.
  • This mincemeat makes a great present - cover with pretty material and tie with a bow to turn it into an instant gift.
