Mum-of-two Stacey Solomon is often outspoken about the nitty-gritty that other public figures tend to gloss over - spots, airbrushed photos, and now childbirth.

The Loose Women panellist recently wrote about what it was like to give birth to her son Zachary at 17.

"Looking back, I wish I had known a little more about how hard and intense childbirth can be for some, because I went in blind," the 28-year-old shared in her Fabulous magazine column.

Stacey said she was a bit naive back then, and that the women she knew who had given birth probably didn't want to 'scare' her with their labour stories. That is understandable, she admitted, but their vague references to the difficulties of childbirth left her in the dark.

When she did give birth to Zachary, the singer described labour as 'one of the most horrendous experiences' of her life and 'utter hell'.

However, she emphasised that every woman's childbirth is different, and that this 'was just my experience'.

The TV presenter was 'dilating at the speed of a sloth', and midwives had her lay in the bath to make her contractions closer together. Eventually, though, she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance due to concerns the baby was too stressed.

After hours of contractions in the hospital, the mum-of-two was given an epidural and prepped for a c-section, but two emergency caesareans were given priority over her.

To make matters worse, the anaesthetist wasn't available to top her up, so they literally had to pull her son out.

"As alarming as that sounds, by this point I would have let them do absolutely anything," Stacey confessed, "I was exhausted and sick and just wanted it all to end!"

Her mum (go mums!) acted as her birthing partner and asked that the doctors used their hands rather than forceps to finally get little Zachary out.

"But, after all that, there he was – this tiny wrinkled alien-looking thing plonked straight on my boobs (without even asking) staring at me as I lay sweaty plus covered in sick and things I didn’t even know existed in my body," Stacey wrote.

She admitted that she 'didn't feel much at all' during that first moment holding Zachary, like plenty of other mums who find themselves not feeling that overwhelming joy people expect you to experience.

One of her main thoughts in that moment though? "I can't wait to go to sleep."

We can relate! The former X Factor competitor says that now, during the same week her son turned 10, she's feeling a whole different emotion.

"The day Zachary was born was the best day of my life (although I didn't feel that way in the moment)," she shared, "He has enriched my life more than he will ever know."

Someone pass us the tissues! We love how honest Stacey is, about both her struggles and in the things that bring her joy.
