When should I order nursery furniture?

It is hard not to get excited and want to start planning everything once you know you are pregnant, so knowing the right time to start buying nursery furniture can be challenging. There are several different factors to take into consideration when planning a nursery so it makes sense not to rush your efforts and to use time wisely.

During the first trimester, parents will run into a couple of issues. The first is that there is a higher chance of miscarriage during the first three months. This means planning and investing in nursery furniture could end up being a waste of money. The second concern during the first trimester is the inability to know the gender of your baby. Unless you are planning a neutral room, it is too soon to make any commitments. That does not mean you cannot start thinking of possible colours and potential furnishings.

However, if you wait until the third trimester you are running the risk of not being able to move and rearrange furniture without some major assistance. There is also the chance that shipped items may not arrive in time or that the nursery will not be ready for your baby’s arrival. Some infants arrive early putting extra pressure on getting the room done in time.

The second trimester is ideal since it is after the risk of miscarriage, plenty of time before the end of the pregnancy, and around the time the parents can discover their baby’s gender.
