Getting your toddler into the habit of helping out at home is definitely one of the best ways to ensure they will be more inclined to tidy up when they are older. While most will relish being given a sweeping brush and pan, not every two or three-year-old will want to spend time cleaning or putting toys away.

So, to help you out, we have compiled a list of tips that will definitely get them more involved in giving you a hand.

Make tidying up easy

Make putting toys away easy for your toddler by giving them lots of storage boxes at low levels so that they can just throw their toys in when they are done. This is a habit that will stay with them as they grow and will, hopefully, make life a lot easier for you both.

Make it fun

The best way to ensure your toddler not only helps out but actually wants to, is to make it fun. And one of the easiest ways to make it enjoyable is to turn it into a game or a competition; a race against the clock or making funny faces for each tasks are simple ways to make boring chores a little more exciting.

Make sure they are able to do it

While a challenge is always a good thing, if you give your youngster a task that is not appropriate for their age they will struggle to do it and become frustrated with themselves thus giving them a negative view of chores. The more enjoyable you make it the more inclined your youngster will be to do it.

Let them get on with it

Don’t give them so many instructions that they struggle to decipher the task at hand. A simple explanation and then letting them get on with it will help them feel confident in their ability and more grown up in terms of how capable they are at doing certain things.

Put on some music

Pop on some music and dance around as you wash floors and dust shelves. This will help your toddler look at cleaning as being something that is exciting, fun and an all round positive experience.
