Aches and pains in pregnancy: they're getting worse, what can I do?

As if the morning sickness and fatigue we feel during the first trimester weren’t bad enough, chances are when they disappear, and you start getting bigger, they’re replaced by other problems. Aches and pains are a part of pregnancy, and the further along you are, the more likely you are to experience them. Back pain, sore feet and leg cramps are just some of the aches and pains that accompany pregnancy for many women.

Since you can’t take over the counter pain medication while pregnant, chances are you’re wondering what you can do.

Massage is one way you can try to relieve pain. Get your partner to rub the parts that are sore with soothing oil.

You could also try shifting position, or using a heating or cooling pad on sore spots. Gentle exercise, such as a few laps in a pool can help, or even taking a warm bath.

If you find that you get sore when sitting or lying in a specific position, try shifting to another position. If things do get too painful, it’s always best to speak to your doctor.
