You asked

My breasts are incredibly tender and sore. Why does this happen, and how soon will it stop?

For many women, breast tenderness is one of the first signs of pregnancy. During the first trimester of your pregnancy, your breasts will swell and grow, thanks to a surge in hormones that is preparing your body to carry and care for your child.

After the initial pain of the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, most women will find that the pain in their breasts subsides. However, since your breasts will continue to grow as more milk ducts are formed, preparing you to breastfeed your child, you may find that it’s replaced by backache.
The very best defence you have against both sore breasts and the backache that accompanies your new, larger bust, is to make sure you have good quality, good support bras.

Have yourself fitted for new bras as soon as your old ones are a little snug, and be careful of buying cheap ones – in this case, quality really does help!
