Being a mum is exhausting.

From cooking and cleaning to helping with homework and trying to find the time for exercise, there are always too many things on your to-do list.

And we would never say no to a little bit of help, even if it comes in the form of our two-year-old child!

In fact, according to the Montessori chart, our tots can be helping out with a lot of the household chores that need to be done.

From carrying firewood to setting the table, it seems our toddlers have been having an easy life up until now!

Yup, according to the chart,  kids aged between two and three should be well able to do the following:

  • Put toys in the toy box
  • Stack books on the shelf
  • Place dirty clothes in the laundry hamper
  • Throw trash away
  • Carry firewood
  • Fold Washcloths
  • Set the table
  • Fetch diapers and wipes
  • Dust baseboards

The chart is based on the idea that youngsters actually learn more by doing than listening, and that they love to feel appreciated and needed.

But it’s not just toddlers that should be doing their fair share around the house...

According to the list, four-year-olds should be disinfecting doorknobs, six-year-olds should be raking leaves, eight-year-olds should be loading the dishwasher, and 10-year-olds should be well able to mow the lawn.

And while we won’t be asking our two-year-old to bring in the firewood (we don’t have a working fireplace anyway...) we are totally on board with the rest of the list.

Every little helps, right?!

(Even if it means we'll spend the majority of the time following them around to make sure they are doing it right...).
