A trip to the park is great way to spend the day as a family, and the last thing on your mind is your child being shot in the stomach with an air rifle while they play.

But for one youngster in west London a day out turned into a horrific ordeal, when she was struck by a pellet in the stomach.

The three-year-old, who was in Hanworth Park with her mum and grandfather, was rushed to hospital where she had to undergo surgery and was kept in for two days.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident which took place on Thursday, 20th August at around 6pm.

"This was a horrific incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to contact police. This shooting could have been far worse, possibly fatal and we need to find the person or persons responsible,” Detective Constable Helen Larson said.

“The little girl had to spend two days in hospital following surgery to remove the pellet. She has now been released from hospital and is making a good recovery and her parents have told us she is well in herself. She will need a number of follow up appointments at the hospital in the coming weeks,” Detective Larson told the Telegraph.

“We have trawled CCTV and conducted searches of the area but this far have not found any leads which may help us identify who was responsible.”

We hope the youngster recovers from this awful ordeal.
