Bedtime can be an extremely stressful time for a lot of mums. From the moment the word "bed" is mentioned all chaos breaks loose as children demand an extra ten minutes. While sending them to their room earlier means you have to face this hectic time sooner than you may like, you will definitely benefit in the long run.

Here are ten reasons to send your toddler to bed ten minutes earlier:

1. You get an extra long shower

There is nothing quite like enjoying an extra long, hot shower after a hard day in peace and quiet. Pure bliss!

2. You actually get to have a shower

Putting your tot to bed an extra ten minutes earlier means you might have enough time in the evening to actually have a shower!

3. You get to go to bed earlier

It may only be an extra ten minutes but those minutes are very important for a very tired mum!

4. You can finally enjoy a cup of tea

Putting them to bed a little earlier means you will have an extra ten minutes to finally enjoy that cup of tea – not glug it down as you are getting ready for bed!

5. Your little one might actually be asleep before ten

Just because you put your toddler to bed at a certain time doesn’t mean they are actually going to go asleep at that time. But putting them down ten minutes earlier might mean they will nod off at a reasonable hour at least!

6. You’ll be a lot more relaxed

Trying to get your little one asleep by a certain time can be extremely stressful, but by starting ten minutes earlier you will be a lot more relaxed and calmer.

7. You will enjoy a more restful night

If your little one is going to bed too late they are less likely to stay asleep for the entire night, and more likely to disturb you at 3am!

8. You won’t have an excuse not to exercise

You can get a lot done in those extra few minutes you have freed up in the evenings, trust us.

9. You won’t have to deal with an overtired, hyper tot

We all know what happens when our kids are overtired – they become hyperactive! You can stop this if you catch it just in time.

10. Because you can

You’re the mum; you’re in charge!
