A mum has shared a very important warning following her son's femur break which has made us think twice about some of our summer activity plans.

Spending time at an indoor trampoline park with her three-year-old and her husband, Kait wasn't aware of the ordeal she was about to face.

The couple were innocently jumping along with their son, when Colton broke his femur, the strongest bone in the body.

Kait had deliberated over the previous twelve days whether to post the warning or not, but she came to the conclusion that she didn't want the same scenario to happen for other families, who simply did not know.

The mum states: "According to the American Academy of Paediatrics and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 'children under the age of six should never use a trampoline'."

"This is due to the fact that their fragile bones are not meant to withstand the repetitive pressure from jumping."

The family recounted their shock when the surgeon made them aware of this during Colton's hospital stay, as they had no idea this was the case.

The toddler will have to wear a hip-spica cast for six weeks in a bid to heal the bone, but as we all know three-year-olds don't sit still for very long, so poor Colton has a lot of adjusting to do.

Colton's parents wanted to share their story to raise awareness around the risks associated with such a popular kids activity, especially for children under the age of six.

"We share this with you today to spread awareness that these facilities are specifically advertising for Toddler Time, when in fact toddlers should be no where near trampolines."

"We hope by sharing his story it will prevent a child and their family from experiencing the trauma and heartbreak associated with trampoline injuries in young children."

What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you think trampolines are a danger for young children, or sometimes freak accidents occur?
