Not only will your preschooler love these science experiments, we guarantee you will have a ton of fun doing them too!
 
Everything you’ll need do set up these experiments is either in your supplies already, or easily bought in local stores.
 
1. Rainbow flowers

What you’ll need:
  • 4  vases
  • 4 white flowers (coronations or gerbera)
  • 4 different coloured food colouring
What you’ll need to do:
Simply fill each vase with water and the different food colourings and add the flower. After a day, the white flower will start to soak up the colour of the water.
 
2. Mini colourful volcanoes

What you’ll need:
  • A tray piled with baking soda
  • 4-5 different food colourings
  • An eye-dropper
  • Vinegar
What you’ll need to do:
Mix the vinegar and food colouring into different glasses and use the eye dropped to drop a small amount into the baking soda for mini colourful volcanoes.
 
3. Milk painting

What you’ll need:
  • A shallow dish
  • Food colours
  • Tooth picks
  • Milk
  • Washing-up liquid
What you’ll need to do:
In the shallow dish pour some milk about ¾ ways. Add the food colours in drops around the milk Get your little one to dip their toothpick into the washing-up liquid and then into the food colour. They’ll have hours of fun swirling the colours.
 
4. Bubble Up!

What you’ll need:
  • A shallow dish
  • Bubbles
  • A straw
  • Food colouring
What you’ll need to do:
In a shallow dish combine the bubbles and food colouring. Get your preschooler to blow out the straw to create a mountain of exciting coloured bubbles.
 
5. Bouncy eggs

What you’ll need:
  • A hardboiled egg
  • Vinegar
What you’ll need to do:
Half fill a glass with vinegar and place the hardboiled egg into it. Leave for 12-24 hours. The acetic acid in the vinegar should cause the shell to come off easily. Leave the egg in a glass of fresh vinegar for a further 24 hours. It will be larger than it was because the vinegar permeates through the egg membranes. It will be bouncy and durable.
