Buying paint pots regularly can get pretty expensive and more often than not toddlers will try to eat them. So to be on the safe side, why not make your own. Using ingredients from your home, you will be surprised at how easy they are to whip up and you won't have to worry if your child puts them in their mouth. 
 
Gluten-free
 
What you'll need:
450ml water
125g cornflour  
3 tbsp caster sugar
3 different food colourings
 
Method:
  • Over a medium heat, combine the water, flour and sugar together.
  • Mix until it becomes thick.
  • Divide into three portions and add your various food dyes to each. Mix well.
  • Pour into three jam jars and allow to cool before letting little fingers play with it. Use straight away.
Water colour
 
What you'll need:
4 tbsp baking soda
1 tbsp vinegar
½ tsp golden syrup
2 tbsp corn flour
4 various food colourings
 
Method:
  • Combine the baking soda and vinegar to a jug and allow to fizz.
  • Add the syrup and flour and mix until it is quite thick.
  • Divide the mixture into four portions and add the various food colourings.
  • Allow to set overnight before using them.
Non-cook paint
 
What you'll need:
120ml water
2 tbsp plain flour
Various food colourings
 
Method:
  • Combine the water and flour together until thick.
  • Divide into different portions.
  • Add the food colourings to each portion. Mix together well.
  • Allow to set before using.
These paints don’t last long so it recommended they are used up that day.
