Naps are a great chance for you to catch up on jobs or chores or even to put your feet up and enjoy a rare cup of tea.

However, a time will come when your little one will no longer need a snooze during the day and they will be able to keep going right up until bedtime.

Look out for these signs that might indicate your youngster no longer needs their afternoon snooze.

Takes a long time to fall asleep at naptime

If putting your little one down at their regular naptime becomes a lot more difficult than it used to be, or they are struggling to fall asleep it may be a sign that they simply aren’t tired. As your little one grows they won’t need to sleep as much and can do away with their naps.

Isn’t tired come naptime

Young children are normally early risers and will generally need a long nap in the early afternoon to give them an energy boost. However, if your little one is still a bundle of energy and is showing no signs of fatigue, like yawning or being irritable, then they are probably going to be very reluctant come naptime.

Is not tired when they are going to bed

Your toddler should be sleepy by the time bedtime comes around, but if they are still full of energy it might be a sign that they have had too much sleep during the day. If you have tried moving their nap to an earlier and shortening it to about 45 minutes and they still aren’t tired, then it might be time to try a no-nap day. However, it is important to remember that not all bedtime issues are caused by your baby’s napping routine.

Doesn't appear to suffer any negatives when they miss their nap

If you are still unsure, try a nap-free day. If they seem fine, aren’t irritable, yawning, whining or showing signs of being overtired by the time the end of the day comes around then it is probably time to say goodbye to the daily snooze.

When it comes to naps try to remember that all children are different and while one might no longer need a snooze in the afternoon, your little one might.
