Sometimes the simplest playthings can unleash the most imagination.

What we’re talking about in this instance are story stones, which if you haven’t come across before, are stones painted or stickered with literally anything and everything and used as story aides.

Kids simply choose a story stone from a bag and invent a wild and wonderful adventure incorporating it, while another child (or the same one!) pulls out another story stone and incorporates into the story too.

Soon they’ll have tales of fireman befriending toasters and toasters saving the world from dinosaurs and dinosaurs eating jelly underwater.

Fun right?

And they couldn’t be simpler or cheaper to make. All you need are some smooth stones and an array or stickers or cuttings from magazines of the likes of aliens, animals and food, or if you fancy yourself handy with a paintbrush some paint.

Stick them onto the stone and cover with a couple of layers of PVA glue to keep them in place.

There you have it – the kids’ fave new toy!
