Fast food chain KFC is investigating claims that a little girl was asked to leave one of their restaurants because her face was frightening other customers.

Three-year-old Victoria Wilcher lost her right eye after being mauled by three pit bulls in April, as well as sustaining a broken jaw, nose, and cheekbones, and suffering facial scarring.

Her family have been using a Facebook page to map her recovery but on Thursday posted a message complaining of the treatment they received at a KFC in Mississippi in the US.

It read, "Does this face look scary to you?"

"Last week at KFC in Jackson MS this precious face was asked to leave because her face scared the other diners,” it went on.

KFC said an investigation had been now been launched into the incident, which was being taken "very seriously".

Company spokesman Rick Maynard, "We take this very seriously, as we have zero tolerance for any kind of hurtful or disrespectful actions toward our guests.

"Our investigation is ongoing, but we have been in touch with the family and are committed to doing something appropriate for this beautiful little girl and her family.”
