Toddler Margot Martini has touched the lives of thousands since her story was told.

Margot was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in October of last year, when she was only fourteen months old.

Through fundraising, social media and their website, Team Margot, her dedicated parents have urged people to register as stem cell donors for the thousands of people like Margot who have been diagnosed with blood cancer.

Margot received her donor, but according to Team Margot's website, "only 50% people with a blood cancer ever find their matching donor."

Now, sadly, the family have released some tragic news regarding Margot’s illness.

In a post, her family wrote: “More bad news: the latest test results reveal that there is a large amount of pseudomonas in Margot’s blood and in her stool. It’s also in her marrow - frankly, it’s everywhere. This is the same particular nasty bug that we hoped would be treated by IV antibiotics; however, Margot’s bone marrow is unable to fight infection and the antibiotics cannot do the work in it’s own. Apparently, Margot will become increasingly tired and her blood pressure will fall along with other vital signs. Bottom line is: this life threatening psuedomonas bug is gathering momentum and Margot can’t seem to clear it. We are told that Margot is now beyond rescue and that it’s no longer a matter of the place of care, but the place of death. Margot is to remain at home where we are keeping her as comfortable as possible. Thank you for your prayers, positivity, well wishes and support.”

Two days ago, Margot’s dad uploaded a video to YouTube featuring Harley Bird, the voice of Peppa Pig, who has been the Team Margot Ambassador, urging people to register as a stem cell donor and encourage ‘Just One More’ to do the same. In the message, Peppa gives Margot a special message, saying: “Goodnight, Margot. Sleep tight.”
Our thoughts are with Margot and her family at this difficult time.

UPDATE:
There has been a further update on Margot’s condition and it sounds very positive indeed.

A post entitled “Margot is our inspiration’ was posted to the website today and tells of what a fighter the little girl has been despite the sad report a few days ago.

The post reads: “Margot has been really very unwell over the last few days, however she continues to fight & be strong and we are pleased that she has shown some signs of improvement in the last 24 hours. It’s abundantly clear that Margot loves life and she wants to live! The re-introduction of Dex steroids into her drug regime has helped. This is a temporary measure that is intended to help relieve the pain in Margot’s liver and spleen, both of which are now noticeably enlarged. Generally, Margot is very weak, very pale and tired yet in spite of it all she has retained her sense of humour throughout. We are continuing to take each day as it comes and are doing what we can to manage her pain and to keep her comfortable, as ever being led by and inspired by Margot.”

We wish Margot every best wish - she truly sounds like a little fighter.
