Just the other day, Georgia policeman James Hurst was hailed a hero after he found a toddler wandering the streets by himself and took him to the hospital.

There, the boy got upset when doctors tried to examine him, so James did what came naturally: he held the boy in his arms. The crying subsided.

Today’s caring cop is LAPD officer John Neal Cooke. John was dispatched to a car crash – reportedly a hit-and-run. According to reports, a woman smashed into a fire hydrant, which started spewing water into the air.

Rather than dealing with the issue, the woman ran from the scene – abandoning her young son in the backseat.

When his colleague alerted him to the bawling toddler in the car by himself, John was horrified and scooped the boy up in his arms.

“He was crying and reaching for me, so I mean it’s kind of just human nature,” John told CBS LA.

He said that he grew up in a big family so it came naturally to him to take the boy into his arms.

“I’ve been taking care of kids since I was a kid as they say,” he said.

Police believe that the boy’s mum was drunk at the time of the accident, and she has since been found and arrested.

She was charged with child endangerment, and the child has been placed in the custody of LA County Department of Children and Family Service.

“It was pretty shocking to think not only did she leave him at all but the fact she left him in such a dangerous situation,” said John.

“It was really comforting to us that we were able to be there for him.”
