Kirsty McKenzie underwent the biggest fright of her life - her toddler wandered.

It's inevitable that at some point in our lives our kids will wander off without telling us, giving us major panic and a proper mum meltdown.

In the current climate it is especially hard; bad news spreads like wildfire, leaving parents with vivid imaginations, always contemplating worst case scenarios.

But when impatience is the cause of a child being left behind, one has to question character.

Kirsty and her toddler, Abbie, were in an elevator when the doors opened on a floor the pair were not exiting on, however, it was the scariest moment of mum's life.

"Abbie wandered off an elevator today, when the doors opened on a floor that wasn't ours. Another lady on the elevator with us, closed the doors on her, repeatedly pressed the CLOSE DOORS button," explained the mum-of-three.

Kirsty's four-year-old daughter was left stranded on a hotel floor completely on her own, it was most likely 'only' for a minute, but that minute was naturally enough to put Mum into a state of panic.

"I'm not sure how long it took for the elevator to go up and back down again, but it was long enough for my mind to run through every single horror scenario in my head."

"I was literally shaking."

While Kirsty did manage to give the strange woman a piece of her mind, we're still confused, wondering why on earth a grown woman would close doors on a four-year-old when no parent exited alongside her.

Surely the woman knew it's not normal for a child to wander aimlessly unattended, with one assuming common sense would prevail?

Or has the world we live in become completely impatient with one another; do we no longer care for others?

It was a happy ending for Kirsty and her family, but it could have been very different.

It probably happens to all of us at some point- kid wanders off, and for a few panicked seconds [hopefully no more than minutes] they're lost. . Abbie wandered off an elevator today, when the doors opened on a floor that wasn't ours. Another lady on the elevator with us, closed the doors on her [repeatedly pressed the CLOSE DOORS button... twatsickle]. Leaving her [my four year old] on a hotel floor all by herself. I'm not sure how long it took for the elevator to go up and back down again, but it was long enough for my mind to run through every single horror scenario in my head. I was literally shaking. . I don't condone violence, but lady twatsickle button pusher was top candidate for my biggest can of whoop ass. I might be little, but they didn't call me 'pocket rocket' in high school for nothing [ok ok, my American friends, I know, but it means something different here in Oz ok? I can assure you I'm not a pocket sized pleasure device... just ask Nathan <- or don't, cause that's super awkward... Just now picturing my dad reading this, uncomfortably... Hi dad ]... Anywho  . All is well, and she was so brave, she didn't even cry. I won't tell her that I did, just a little . . . . . . . . . . . #thatsdarling #liveauthentic #thehappynow #abmlifeiscolorful #flashesofdelight #joyfulmamas #unitedinmotherhood #motherhoodrising #eternalmotherhood #mybeautifulmess #clickinmoms #our_everyday_moments #letthembelittle #nestlingly #ohheymamas #ig_motherhood #habitandhome #dailyparenting #inbeautyandchaos #motherhoodsimplified #littleandbrave #letthekids #candidchildhood #childhoodunplugged #uniteinmotherhood #mumlife #mummylife #aussiemum #aussieblogger

Nonetheless we were delighted to hear the mum-of-three share: "All is well, and she was so brave, she didn't even cry. I won't tell her that I did, just a little."

How would you handle the situation mums? Comment and let us know.
