You probably remember when your baby first discovered his hands, and his feet, and he spent countless hours looking at and touching them. Touching his genitals is much the same thing – his way of exploring his body.
However, while it’s perfectly normal for him to touch his genitals, and even to enjoy it, it can be embarrassing when he does it in public.
If you’ve noticed that your toddler is touching his genitals when there are people around, you need to explain to him that while exploring his body is fine, and perfectly normal, it’s not acceptable when there are other people around.
Tell him that if he wants to touch his genitals, he should wait for a time when he is alone, such as when he is in his room. Explain to him that there are parts of his body that are private, and that he should avoid touching in public.
