If your child has already learned to walk, you may be wondering why they’re perfectly happy to walk or even run around when you’re at home, but sits down or throws a tantrum when you want her to walk anywhere else with you.
You have to look at it from her perspective though. Being carried is comfortable and comforting, they’re used to it, and it gives them an adult’s view of the world. They’re also physically less than capable to keep up with you – even if you walk slowly, those little legs have to work hard to keep up!
The truth is, until your child is around three years old, they won’t really be able to walk with you. Even then, he or she may rebel, because let’s face it, reaching up to hold your hand is not the most comfortable thing in the world. Neither is getting jerked when they’re about to trip.
Until your child is capable, of keeping up, you have two main choices – stick to carrying her, or let her keep riding in her pram.
You could try alternating – letting them walk a short distance, and then be carried a short distance, or you could make walking fun, by racing your child short distances, but for now, try not to force the issue.
