Children love to tell stories and can learn to love writing with some encouragement. Here are several suggestions to get your child writing:

·        Provide your child with lots of opportunities to write and creative ways to do so. Colourful markers and papers, sidewalk chalk, an easel, poster board, even a computer will spark their imagination.
·        Be a role model by letting your child observe you writing on a daily basis. Whether it’s the shopping list or a journal, this reinforces the idea that writing is important.
·        Whenever your child writes, provide encouragement by telling them what a great job they are doing.
·        Write a story together. Sit down and help your child compose a storybook. They love making up the story and the fact that you are doing it together.
·        When you go on a road trip, take a blank notebook so your child can write down what they see and do.
Start a journal. Use a blank notebook and explain what a journal is to your child. Each day, encourage them to write something in the journal about their day.
